Our omnipresent, omniscient God

Updated: Jun 28

Romans 9:15-24 " For God said to Moses, I have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion. So then it does not depend upon the man who will's or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy. For the scripture says to Pharaoh, for this very purpose I raised you up to demonstrate My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed throughout the whole earth. So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires. You will say to me then, why does He still find fault? For who resist His will ? On the contrary, who are you o man who answers back to God ? The thing molded will not say to the molder , why did you make me like this, will it ? Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use. " I have had some questions about these verses lately. Primarily does it mean some individuals were created for destruction ? One person asked what difference does it make what they do if they have already been marked destruction, created as a vessel of dishonor ? In order to reach a correct understanding, we must first have a correct understanding of a couple of the attributes of of God. Namely omnipresence and omniscience. Noah Webster's 1828 dictionary defines omnipresence as; presence in every place simultaneously, unbounded or universal presence. Omniscient is defined as; the quality of knowing all things at once, universal knowledge, knowledge unbounded and infinite. Knowing these definitions can help us with a proper perspective. First let's talk about omnipresence. Imagine a line, a line that goes on forever in either direction. That line is made up of billions upon billions of dots going on forever as does the line. Now consider that each of those dots represent a point in space and time. God being omnipresent would and does occupy all those points of space and time simultaneously. That would mean that all of history is layed out before Him in an instant. That means all of history even before the beginning and throughout all of eternity is as the present before God. All of it unfolded before God in a moment. God is also omniscient. Knowing all things past, present and future. Universal knowledge, knowing all things at once. Now understanding these attributes of God can shed light on these scriptures as they apply to man, God's creation. You will be able to clearly see that no one was intentionally created for destruction. As applies to each individual, we must understand that God being able to look down the corridors of time with infinite knowledge knows every aspect of our lives. Every thought, decision, act in an individual's life in total completeness. He has perfectly intimate knowledge of every person to have ever been born. Having that unfettered knowledge, God knows who will accept Him or who will reject Him. At the moment you came into existence in the womb, God already knew intimately right down to every cell. King David said before I was created You knew me. Hopefully this is beginning to help us understand that everything in our lives is a matter of our own choices. Our eternal destiny in the end will be a matter of our own choice's in our lives. These verses do say that God grants mercy to whom ever He chooses. We can all receive that mercy if we are willing to humble ourselves before Him and seek His forgiveness. Hopefully we can see now that a vessel created for honor and a vessel created for dishonor were both created with complete for knowledge on our God's part. He fully knew who would accept Him and His forgiveness, and those who would reject Him and turn away. God also grants mercy to some and not others with that same for knowledge. If we come to Him in humility seeking His forgiveness and truly give our hearts to Him we can receive His mercy and forgiveness. My brothers and sisters I can not end this post without inviting and even pleading with you all to come and join me as I seek God's favor and mercy and forgiveness. Only let us to endeavor to be pleasing in His sight everyday. May the Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you, the Lord lift up His countenance on you and give you peace.
