He is Faithful When We are Not

I read the book of Hosea this morning. I was reminded of Israel's unfaithfulness towards God.

I read how God's judgement tore they apart piece by piece as they continued their rebellion towards God. In Hosea they are referred to as harlots and adulterers. We must understand that God has always desired an intimate relationship with His people. A relationship much like a marriage relationship. Our God is a jealous God and will tolerate no rivals. In the book of Hosea Israel had turned to Baal worship and were defiling themselves with harlots and worshiping Baal. This often involved temple prostitutes, sacrificing the babies and children on an altar known as a tophit. All in the name of prosperity and fertility. God judged them harshly for what He considered adulteress and idolatress behavior towards Him. God did not come and destroy them in a day. It was a measured response over time, in hopes that they would turn their hearts back toward Him. Their decline was a gradual process as they continued to their own way and in the end sealed their fate. Like a good Father or a faithful husband, God continued to love them. As a good Father, He chastised them and attemped to help them see the erroe of theri ways. As a faithful husband to His bride He continued to pursue them. Unfortunately they weren't having any of it. Then chastisement turned into punishment and punishment into judgement. The book of Hosea has a happy ending as Gods is determined to call them back and to continue His great love for them. I see many similarities to America. Our God blessed this nation with a land more fruitful and abundant than any other nation in the history of the world. It was because of the faithfulness of those who founded this great nation. Just as Israel in the book of Hosea squandered Gods blessings, so has America. For more than a hundred years our people have turned their backs on God. In some cases, have even tried to poke a stick in God's eye in going their own way. God's response has been measured as He has tried through chastisement and punishment to turn our hearts back to Him. America has and continues in our adulteress behavior towards God. We don't call it Baal worship these days, but we have set up idols for ourselves and in many ways have openly opposed God. Our destruction hasn't come in a day, but it has been coming for a very long time and we have chosen to ignore it. Look around you! We have the LGBTQIA+ destroying the moral fabric of our society with all manner of perversion, bringing with it disease and plague. We have militant groups like black live matter bringing violence and the destructio of our cities. We have the communist party usa who seek revolution. And our very government seeking to detroy America. Natural disasters; California has had 15 earthquakes in 2024 alone, and at least one magnitude 4 or higher. We have had over 1500 tornadoes in 2024. At least 25 hurricanes are expected. And just as important we are just a few weeks away from the most important election in our history. Both sides are poised for violence. It seems no matter who wins, we are headed for some rough times. If you think for a moment that God is not present in all of this and more, you are sadly mistaken. Many if not all the things destroying America are signs of God's judgment on America, But as in the book of Hosea God still loves us and wants us to turn our hearts back to Him, so He can bless us and care for us. If we won't turn back from our adulterous, rebellious behavior then this is what Proverbs says: "Because I have called and you refused, I stretched out my hand and no one paid attention: and you neglected my counsel and did not want my reproof; I will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your dread comes, when your dread comes like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but they will not find me. because they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the Lord."

We in America are at the end of the line. There is no other way forward than to turn to God in humility and repentance and hope and pray that its not too late to receive His mercy. As a nation our fate may already be set in stone. The destruction of our country is all but complete. One nation under God doesn't seem to exist anymore! But as individuals as long as we are alive and breathing it is not too late to repent of our sins and receive His forgiveness. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ shed His own blood and gave His life so that we might be saved. Do not turn away from Him now. The sands of the hourglass have nearly run out. Today is the day of salvation! Please I beg you, don't close your eyes in sleep, don't lay your head on your pillow tonight without knowing Him and receiving the love that comes through salvation.
